hclosure No. 2.
The main features of lir. Dawson's lay-out es
47
compared with the lay-out submitted by this Department are:- (1) that he has completely separated the Civil Establishment area from the R.A.F. area and (2) that he has proposed an
extension of the area of the Kai Tak Aerodrome northwards
enlarging its dimensions from North to South which was its shortest measurement. An attempt was made in the Departmental
1y-out to overcome this defect by the introduction of flight
japs suggested by various R.4.F. officers but lir. Dawson nas
preferred the extended area shewn on his lay-out plan. The
extensions proposed by Mr. Dawson for flight gaps necessitate
the resumption of land and buildings and the extension of
nullahs.
2.
The Departmental lay-out provided accommodation for
both Civil and R.A.F. requirements within an area to the
South-East corner of tho Aerodrome.
3.
Lir. Dawson has allotted the South-West corner of the
lerodrome for Civil aviation this area is at present occupied
by the R.A.F. unit that has now been stationed in Hong Kong for
sometime all buildings being of a temporary nature. Owing"
to the South-fest area being at present occupied, when suggestions for the formation of a Company to make an early
commencement with Civil Aviation in Hong Kong were made the
South-East corner was selected for the purpose of operating flying boats
one slipway and an aircraft shed were the first
essentials and work on the slipway was commenced in such a
position that it could be ultimately incorporated in the future
Aerodrome lay-out.
4.
Mr. Dawson has adopted this position for one of the
two slipways shewn on his proposed lay-out.
